The Thanksgiving holiday often doesn’t get the rep it deserves. Since it’s right in between Halloween and Christmas, we start singing festive songs and hanging up lights without thinking twice about giving thanks. For some, the Thanksgiving holiday is a nice break in between semesters, a few days off work, or just another holiday. However, in our home, we absolutely LOVE the Thanksgiving holiday. So in light of Thanksgiving a few weeks away, here are my 6 favorite things about the Thanksgiving holiday.
Food, Food, Food
You know what that means. Grab yourself one plate, maybe two, or maybe even five of your favorite classics. There’s no shame in wearing a chunky sweater and promise yourself you’ll start dieting tomorrow.
You may not be working full-time, but a half-day of work is always a call for celebration for us! If you get a shorter work day and the next day off, pop open a bottle of wine and relax. It may be your first major holiday off since September and you’ve earned some downtime!
Thanksgiving-themed TV specials
If you do decide to stay in on Wednesday, be thankful for the crazy-good holiday TV specials. From Charlie Brown Thanksgiving to SNL’s Thanksgiving special, you’ve got a perfect evening in front of you. And of course, the annual Friends Thanksgiving episodes (I’m partial to the one with Brad Pitt) always make for classic television.
If you’re not down with the cooking for an army thing, Friendsgiving is a great time to try some Thanksgiving meals on a smaller scale. Whether your friends are your family or you have multiple Thanksgiving meals, Friendsgiving is a great thing to celebrate with those you love.
Even though some Thanksgiving meals get awkward, it’s still a great holiday surrounded by those who you love the most. Don’t worry about work, what you have to get done the next day and why your family keeps asking when you’re going to get engaged or have kids. As bittersweet as it is, Thanksgiving only comes once a year so we have to enjoy it as much as we can!
Did we mention the food yet?
Luckily for me, Thanksgiving only comes once a year. If it happened any more than that, I’d be seriously worried! Because let’s be real – there’s NOTHING in this world like Thanksgiving cooking. Especially if it comes from your mamas.
So no matter why you love to celebrate Thanksgiving, it’s a great excuse for a family gathering full of love and food. What are some of your favorite Thanksgiving holiday traditions? Leave your comments below!
