Summer vacation is just around the corner, which means three months when kids can spend their days outside. While the backyard is a great place for families to spend their time, parents will want to make sure their space is ready for kids to have fun too.
This year, keep guests of all ages entertained with suggestions from interior designer and HGTV Design Star fan favorite, Kellie Clements.
Tips to Design a Backyard for Family Entertaining
- Keep them entertained! Provide some creative games and areas that will grab their attention, and you will enjoy the party much more. Having children under your feet while trying to visit with friends is not at all relaxing. If you provide some age appropriate games, your guest will LOVE you for it!
- Make sure to add lighting to the party. Incorporate lighting into your yard that has an LED feature, such as TIKI® Brand Glowing Torches. These torches use an LED light that illuminates the torch from within and gives a great ambiance to your party.
- Provide designated “kid zones.” For children, seating should be low to the ground or on blankets to avoid any spills out of adult-sized chairs. This will prevent mom and dad having to help them up and down, and will also ensure that there is plenty of space at the grown-up table.
- Have them bring their own “transportation.“ Ask the kids to bring their own bikes, wagons or scooters. You can provide a few items for them to decorate their wheels and have a parade at the end to show off their creations.
