As August creeps closer and closer, I’m dreading the 100-degree days in my near future. So instead of having a lazy last few weeks of summer, I want to spend time with my kiddos in the great outdoors. However, if your kiddos are anything like mine, they’re glued to technology and outside is a dark and scary place. So how do you get them excited? Fun activities biking activities! Not only are these great for you and your kiddos, they’re a great source of exercise too! Here are my favorite 3 biking activities for my family.
Sidewalk Obstacle Course
Set up a bike-themed obstacle course in your driveway or sidewalk. You can create it or have your children do it. This is a fun way to get them to learn how to maneuver and steer! Options include using chalk to create a difficult path and placing objects for them to swerve around. As always, a prize at the end is a nice touch!
This is a great group activity for neighbors or friends. Pick out a weekend and schedule all-day decorating on Saturday and Sunday for the parade. Pick up some streamers, glitter, paper, cardboard, paint, etc. Anything to decorate their bike with! Just make sure whatever you give them, you don’t mind being on the bike itself. The more kiddos, the better! On Sunday, section off your block if possible and have your kiddos show off their hard work!
What sounds more fun than a summer scavenger hunt on a bike? Choose the best location – it can be your neighborhood, park, or any place that has a bike path. You can create the clues based on a bicycle safety theme or anything that you think your child would enjoy. At the end, have a new helmet waiting as a surprise for completing the course!
Being active with your kiddos doesn’t have to be difficult and it definitely doesn’t have to be miserable! Get outside and have fun with your kiddos, no matter what they decide to do. What are some of your favorite summer biking activities for the whole family? Leave your comments below!
