The magic of snow is always mesmerizing. Whether it’s looking outside of our window or playing with everyone’s favorite — snow globes. Homemade snow globes are a perfect way to spend time with the whole family and create a little Christmas magic on your living room floor. The possibilities are endless and you can create your perfect winter scene from pure imagination! The best part is you can use almost any jar for this project. From an old food jar in your pantry, or a mason jar you can buy at any retail store. Here’s how to get started!
- Glass Jar
- Evergreen Tips
- Oil-based Paint
- Distilled Water
- If you want to add some holiday spirit to the jar lids, paint with oil-based enamel paint. First, sand the inside of the lid until the surface is rough. Then, with clear-drying epoxy, adhere a figurine to the inside of the lid and let the epoxy dry.
- Next, fill the jar almost to the top with distilled water. Then, add a pinch of glitter and some glycerin to keep the glitter from falling too quickly. Add as little or as much glitter as you want! Keep in mind this doesn’t have to be followed to a T, let your kids design to their heart’s content.
- When adding the epoxy, make sure you don’t add too much or the glitter will clump at the bottom of the jar when it’s flipped over.
- Finally, screw the lid on tightly and be careful not to damage the figurine. Once you have the lid screwed on, turn the jar over. And voila, it’s snowing!
And in four simple steps, you’re good to go! These make great family crafts, activities during movie nights, or even gifts! What are some of your favorite Christmas crafts? Leave your comments below!
