It is no mystery that children and teenagers can be hard to communicate well with. Whether that be parents, teacher, or friends. However, being a parent and having trouble reaching your child can end in ways that are not always fun.
As kids reach a certain age, they feel superior to those around them. Many of them are not willing to talk to their parents about what is going on in their life. Yet, the most important factor in raising a child can be their relationship with their parents. Therefore, it is essential to the whole family dynamic and its well being that effort is put forth on both sides. In order to do so here are some tips on how to reinvent and revitalize that relationship.
Every day after the kids get home from school, encourage them to sit down with you, have a snack, and talk about their day. They may not go into great detail, but these beginning conversations will become deeper and deeper as times goes on. Children and teenagers will feel more comfortable opening up about the good AND the bad in their day to day lives.
Another form of comfort to try is sitting with them right before bed. After they have been in bed for a few minutes, sit on the edge and tell them you love them. After that express your gratitude for their presence in your life and ask them how their day was. Eventually, they will recognize this as a nightly routine and your relationship will immensely grow. It may not be easy at first, but trust me, it is beyond worth it in the end. Nothing beats a healthy and happy relationship with your children.
