With school out for the summer, your child has plenty of idle time. You don’t want them to lose their activeness in the three months of vacation. Here’s few ways to keep them going!
1. Be an example.
You know the old saying, turn a negative into a positive. Some kids will look at working out as a chore rather than a way to stay healthy. However, if they see you working out on a regular basis, they’ll be more inclined to join in or create their own form of a workout. There are plenty of classes at gyms and recreation centers that allow children and parents to train together.
2. Give them a reason.
First one to do twenty push-ups wins! Fastest one to run around the block gets to pick the film for Movie Night! Small treats like these are great incentives for children to stay active. Be sure to do this every so often, or your child will begin to go through the motions just to receive a prize.
3. Get a group.
Gather the kids from your block, or from your local Girls Scouts group, and have them work out together! It’s always a better atmosphere when you’re with your friends. They serve not only as comfort, but also as inspiration to complete the workout. You can create a mini-marathon, or relay race; the more the better!
