It can be easy to get stuck going through the motions around this time of year. We’re stressed out by long lines and getting the best gifts possible for those we love. While we all try to remind ourselves of the reason for the reason, we can forget about the magic of Christmas and why we love it so much. So how do you bring back the happiness and excitement of Christmas? In our home, we up the ante when it comes to Christmas gift wrapping!
First things first, get a separate roll of wrapping paper for each child. As you are wrapping their gifts use one specific pattern that corresponds to their gifts. Now, this seems easy, but you might forget who gets what pattern, so make sure you take note before all the gifts are wrapped.
Next, the fun begins. Do NOT label the gifts. It causes less stress when the kids are looking at all the gifts leading up to the big day. There won’t be any bickering about who’s is bigger or who has more because they will only be able to wonder who’s is who’s.
So what’s the point? Where’s the fun? How is this a tradition? Before you fill their stocking, fold up a piece of gift wrap that corresponds with their gifts and place it in the bottom of the stocking. Have them open their stockings first. Once they get to the bottom they will be able to run to the tree and finally figure out which presents belong to them.
Now, the first time you do this they won’t expect the wrapping paper at the bottom of the stocking. However, come next year, if your kids are sneaky like mine, they will be digging through that stocking! So instead, drop the paper in on Christmas Eve, once they have gone to bed.
This is one of my favorite family traditions and I plan on continuing this well into adulthood as well. Gift wrapping will never be the same again!
