It’s Christmas Eve! Your kiddos have probably already made their elaborately long Christmas lists, asking for the world, but have you ever stopped to ask them about giving to others less fortunate than them? Instead of having an attitude of pure desire, teach them about giving back to others. They will learn that their kindness goes a long way and may even appreciate the way it feels to give to others. Here are some simple ways your children can learn about kindness and giving.
The Giving Plate is an awesome way to give during the holidays and of course throughout the year! Prepare or buy food to give to friends, family or a neighbor. They will really appreciate the caring gesture! To personalize this gift even more, have your kids decorate their own plate, completing it with their own signature!
Have your children bring your local nursing home some homemade ornaments or even sweet treats such as bananas or cookies. Elderly people love being visited and will enjoy that your children took time out to come visit with them.
Reach out to the children in the community! Go to a toy store and have your kids pick out a few toys that they would give to other children. These toys do not have to be expensive whatsoever. Deliver these toys to your local Toys For Tots!
Many places are having canned food drives during the holiday season. Have your children bring canned foods and other non-perishable food items to the food drive. Have them pick things they would actually eat and enjoy, because the people who eat these foods will really appreciate foods that are delicious!
Keep this going each year and your child will be grateful for the things that they are given and will begin giving out of the kindness of their hearts. Happy Holidays!
