Summer is getting ready to draw to a close and the window for vacations is closing quickly! Traveling with the family can be expensive and difficult to plan, but that doesn’t mean you can’t have a fun vacation this year! Instead of watching your kiddos glue themselves to the TV, here are some great ways to enjoy a staycation this summer.
Old School Games
Remember things like red light/green light, Simon says, duck-duck-goose, musical chairs, or freeze tag? These are lots of fun and even better, free! If your kiddos are too old to enjoy these games, try going to an arcade. You’ll have as much fun as they do!
A Day in The Park
Find a list of all the parks in your city, and make a plan to visit as many as you can during the break. You can even plan a picnic! Your kids can still run around outside, and you’ll all be ready for a nap afterward. You can even make a map marking off the parks you visited when you get home.
Instead of plopping down for a few hours, the whole family can play a game that will help get them active. If you’re looking to get a little exercise, this a great way to do so! Assign a main character to each family member. Whenever their character shows up, they have to get up, do a jumping jack, etc. Your kiddos will enjoy it, too!
Visit a museum
Museums usually run walking tours and will often have activities for kids. Find something everyone is interested in, science, history, or animals. It is a learning experience but your kids will be so distracted by having fun, they won’t even notice.
Learn a new sport or activity.
There’s nothing better than making memories from new experiences. Whether you try to play volleyball as a family or enroll yourself in a dance class, get out there and have fun! If a family member is really good at a certain sport, try having them teach it to everyone else.
Summer is the time for fun in the sun and you should soak up every minute of it! It may not be a day poolside at a resort but it’s much better than being stuck in the house all day. What are some of your favorite ways to staycation during the summer? Leave your comments below!
