Do you love following a proven system, and achieving great results? Yes! Do you love knowing you are doing the best job that you can as a parent, teacher or caregiver? Totally! The neat thing about caring for kids is you don’t need to know everything. You simply need to know where to find the answers you seek. This leads me to the topic of this article. Have you ever heard of coaching? I am not talking about coaching a basketball, football or hockey team. What I am referring to is a different kind of coaching. This definition is taken from the International Coaching Federation, (ICF) Official Website under FAQ’s, (frequently asked questions). The ICF is the support network of coaches. Each professional coach has their own niche or specialty: be it coaching kids or coaching adults. In this article, we are discussing coaching kids.
What is professional coaching?
“ICF defines coaching as: partnering with clients in a thought-provoking and creative process, that inspires them to maximize their personal and professional potential. This is particularly important in today’s uncertain and complex environment. Coaches honor the client as the expert in his, or her life and work. They believe every client is creative, resourceful and whole. Standing on this foundation, the coach’s responsibility is to:
- Discover, clarify, and align with what the client wants to achieve
- Encourage client self-discovery
- Elicit client-generated solutions and strategies
- Hold the client responsible and accountable
This process helps clients dramatically improve their outlook on work and life, while improving their leadership skills and unlocking their potential.”
Have you ever considered having a coach, whose specialty is children, talk and coach your child? Did you even know this was available to you?
Let’s say for example, that your child is struggling with the effects of being bullied. This is only one example of any number of issues that kids have to deal with. You feel he, or she needs someone to help guide them to the answers that will make them feel better. A children’s coach would definitely fit the bill! Now let’s look at it from the flip side. Imagine if you are a children’s coach looking for a system that may enable you to help your client reach his, or her goal and excel. Would having a system in place make your job easier? Absolutely! Then you are in for a treat.
