If you’re anything like us, organization is everything. We might not always be as organized as we wish we could be, but we try, right? We try to color code our folders for our bills, receipts, and just about anything. However, I always seem to fall short when organizing my planner. I try to write down things in an organized way to keep me on track, but end up writing down things last minute. When I look at the upcoming week, I feel overwhelmed. Fortunately, a planner is a great way to get and stay organized when done right. Here are a few tips to keep your schedule pretty and organized!
Start Solid
With so many options out there, it can absolutely be difficult to pick out which planner will be best for you. Whenever I buy a new planner, I end up doing tons and TONS of research. There are so many brands, and when you narrow down a brand that’s only half the work. Then you have to decide which type of planner you want! It’s best to start simple. Don’t overwhelm yourself with design, colors, or customization. Just try to choose something that has the best layout for your week!
Bring Out the Washi Tape
Can we be honest for a minute? Life is CRAZY! And that’s the understatement of the year, am I right!? No matter how much time we spend planning out our week, something always seems to come up. Rescheduled doctors appointments, canceled events, you name it. It happens and that’s where planners tend to get messy. But we have to write down events, right? Right! But there is something that can help. If you have regular events that change from time to time, write them on washi tape. Not only is this pretty to look at, but it’s also easy to switch around. Instead of re-writing events, just peel it off and move it to the correct day!
Stock Up on Highlighters
Highlighters remind me of the good old days of school. Highlighters have been around for god knows how long, but I didn’t start using them in my planner until recently. Highlighters are a LIFE saver! Instead of using a bunch of stickers or taking up unnecessary space, just highlight important events. This will save you time and also add some color to your pages! Make sure to pick out a highlighter that won’t bleed so you don’t affect next weeks pages.
Mark Smart
Lastly, choose your writing instrument very carefully. If you find yourself always amending your week’s schedule, we recommend a pencil. I almost never use a pencil, but in my planner, it’s an absolute must! Life happens and we have to learn to go with the flow!
If you don’t already have one, it’s time for you to invest in a planner. Whether you choose to pick beauty over function, different planners work for different people.
