Shopping is one of my favorite past-times. I can shop for hours, hopping from store to store and stocking up on this seasons favorites. Unfortunately, I’m not on an unlimited budget and thought shopping for a bargain was too difficult for me. Once I started tagging along with my friends who were seasoned pros, I realized how easy shopping for a bargain is. Here are some of my favorite tips to have a successful shopping trip, no matter what your budget it!
Prepare Prepare Prepare
I love to scan racks and tables to see what goodies I can find, but it’s not always the best idea when you’re bargain hunting. Instead of browsing, try to make a list of what you’re looking for and stick to it. That way you don’t go beyond budget and you’ll spend a lot less waiting in long lines, too!
The Earlier The Better
If you have a lot of trouble with big crowds, this is super important. You’re less likely to be distracted if you shop during slow times. Plus, the earlier you shop, the bigger advantage you have at finding the best deals before everyone else!
Be Selective
This is something I still struggle with, and it takes a while to get the hang of. Just because something is on sale, doesn’t mean you should buy it! Unless you absolutely need it or is something that makes you happy, put it down. Impulse purchases rarely end well and it’s better to save your money for something else.
Give Yourself Time
If you’re in a rush, it’s not the best time to go bargain hunting. When stores are busy, you won’t be able to get in and out as fast as you need to. If you don’t like to spend hours at the mall, try going during non-peak months, especially during the holiday season.
Know What You’re Buying
I almost never pass up a good deal, especially when it’s a fashion steal. However, I’ve come to learn that most of the time, significant mark-downs are there for a reason. Whether the items are outdated or have imperfections, make sure you know what you’re buying. There’s no shame in settling for a leather jacket 75% off, just make sure you know there’s probably a reason for it.
Most importantly, have fun! Grab some of your friends and use it as a time to catch up and relieve some stress! Shopping is one of my favorite things to do, whether it’s shopping for a bargain or not. What are some of your favorite tips for shopping for a bargain? Leave your comments below!
