Cooking your own food in your own kitchen is one of the best habits to get into. You know what’s going into your body and you can put your own spin on things! However, cooking for beginners has a serious learning curve. Recipes and videos always look so much easier than actually is, which can be discouraging. However, we’ve got you covered with some great cooking tips to remember to implement in your kitchen.
Read Recipes Ahead of Time
This may sound crazy, but it’s true! However, how often do you find yourself looking for a good recipe, you skim through it and decide to get started? All the time? Me too. You may have to start preparing seasonings and marinades the night before, or there may be some hidden ingredients in the directions. Always read the recipe at least once before you start cooking, to avoid feeling rushed and flustered!
Prep and Organize First
Sometimes when you’re really hungry, you don’t have time to wait. It happens and sometimes you skip a step, sometimes you omit or substitute ingredients. Time is not always our friend. However, before you even heat up your pan, you need to be fully prepared. Have all of your veggies chopped, seasonings set out and proteins portioned. Cooking is so much more enjoyable this way!
Let Meat Sit After Cooking
After your meat is done cooking, I know how tempting it is to dig right in. However, most of the moisture from the meat is resting at the edges and will spill out almost immediately. If you let it rest for just a few minutes, the juices will move back towards the center and won’t spill out onto the middle of your plate!
Don’t Leave the Kitchen
This may sound simple enough, but I still have to remind myself not to leave the kitchen! This is absolutely one of the most important cooking tips I could offer. You might be waiting for your water to boil or your soup to simmer. So you decide to go check the laundry or take out the dog. Sometimes things might work out just fine and others you might come back to a ruined dinner. It’s best to stay in the kitchen until your meal is done!
Go With the Flow
Things will happen. We’re all human and no matter how we try, sometimes we just can’t get it right. That’s okay! If you mess up a meal today, it’s one step closer to being a better chef. You can only learn through trial and error, and it’s important not to beat yourself up.
With just remembering a few simple steps you can step up your chef game in just a few meals! It’s important to have fun while cooking and remember you want to make a delicious meal, but not let it take over your evening. What are some of your favorite cooking tips? Leave your comments below!
