In this day and age, technology has become an all-encompassing part of our everyday lives. How does this recent discovery affect our kids, though? The advancements in learning techniques, such as ABC movies, educational tv shows, iPad games, and more all aim to positively affect our youth and their virtual learning, but does all this actually work? Recent studies have shown that while these do stir creativity in children’s minds the action of “fantasy play” is much more effective. Sitting passively and staring at a screen is not stimulating enough for many kids.
“Fantasy play” means kids using their imagination. So for example, picking up a rectangle block and pretending that it is a telephone. Kids using their imaginations will, in turn, result in their vocabulary and minds being further developed. This form of play is often loved by kids because it allows for a sort of freedom to be found. Kids can truly become whomever they want. In their minds, they can be a teacher, firefighter, cowboy, doctor, truthfully whatever they want.
A way for parents to encourage their kids to utilize fantasy play is by having toys of many different shapes allowing for endless possibilities. Additionally, playing with your kid is a super fun and interactive way for you and your children to create endless memories!
